BuzzTrace is a fast-paced, head-to-head game where players hunt hidden sabotage connectors in the city of Electra's power grid — Battleship-style, but instead of guessing single positions, you call out connections between two points, and each closed circuit rings the buzzer and removes a connector.

//the game

Reactor Rescue is a competitive, engine-building strategy board game for 1–4 players, ages 10+, with a unique game mechanic: you build real electronic circuits to win!

Players step into the role of space engineers racing to save the city of Electra. Your spacecraft has malfunctioned mid-mission, and you must repair it by wiring real electronic components — motors, lights, sensors, switches, and dimmers — to fix the broken systems of your spacecraft. The first engineer to fully repair their spacecraft claims the single Reactor Token and wins the game!

Every decision matters, every build is real, and every game unfolds differently!

The Award-Winning Game Where Circuits Are Real

Ages 10+ · Fully safety-certified: CE, EN71 & EN IEC 62115 (EU), ASTM F963 & FCC (US), SOR/2011-17 & ICES-003 (Canada), AS/NZS ISO 8124 & AS/NZS 62115 (AU/NZ) · Lead-, cadmium- & phthalate-free

The circuits are real. The victory is real.

//how to play

Save the city of Electra by building real circuits

Collect Resources, Build REAL working Circuits and Earn Repair Tokens. Be the first to completely fix your ship and WIN the REACTOR TOKEN!

01

Collect Resources

Collect and manage resources — each Resource Card represents one of the electronic blocks in the game.

02

Build the circuit

Pick your challenge. Circuit Challenges come in three difficulty levels — grab an easy win or gamble on a harder build for a bigger reward. Collect the resources it needs, then claim the card and build the real, working circuit yourself

03

Earn Repair Tokens

Every circuit you successfully build earns you Repair Tokens. There are five types to collect — be the first to earn all five, claim the Reactor Token, and launch your ship to victory.

//feature highlights

Build circuits to fix your spacecraft

Reactor Rescue isn't a game about circuits. It's a game with circuits.

On your turn, claim a circuit challenge, start the two-minute timer, and start building! Snap real electronic blocks together with magnetic wires — motors, lights, sensors, switches. Complete your circuit before time runs out.

When it works, you'll know. The motor spins. The light glows! The sensor triggers! You earn one or more Repair Tokens and bring your spacecraft one step closer to launch!

Simple to learn, but with strategic depth for high replayability

Reactor Rescue has been designed with a simple and intuitive rule system, allowing players to quickly learn the game and jump straight into their first Rescue mission!

The key to winning in Reactor Rescue is managing your resources wisely so you can take on the circuit challenges that earn the Repair Tokens your spacecraft needs. Then, you'll need to build those circuits correctly before the timer runs out to secure the repairs. Some Circuit Cards trigger Events that can give you an edge, while failed builds lead to Malfunctions that introduce new obstacles. These twists keep the gameplay unpredictable and constantly shift the odds. Simple rules. Endless strategy.

The transition from Learning Mode to Circuit Specialist Mode is a true engineering challenge!

Labbox technology: safe, real and built to handle mistakes

The electronic blocks in Reactor Rescue come from the LabBox system of electronics: a proven system of real electronic blocks designed for the discovery of the science of circuits! Used in thousands of homes and classrooms across 20+ countries!

What makes the LabBox system especially well-suited for gameplay is the built-in feedback through indicator lights. When circuits are not correct — reversed polarity, a short circuit — the blocks signal it clearly through indicators. Players can see what went wrong and understand how to fix it on their next attempt, without needing any technical background.

Each block has internal electronic safeguards which make them durable and designed to support mistakes in circuits without damaging them!

An experience that inspires real engineering thinking

What makes Reactor Rescue truly special is how closely the gameplay mirrors what real engineers do every day.

Select components, design a solution, build it with your hands, test it, figure out what went wrong, and try again. This isn't a simplified version of the engineering process, it is the engineering process, wrapped inside a game players genuinely want to come back to. During gameplay, players get to build different Series and Parallel circuits.

//about labbox

From classrooms to your table

Love Play, Learn

Ten years ago, we founded jCoders Academy to teach kids how to code, build circuits, and explore robotics. Our goal was simple: turn kids into creators of technology, not just users of it.

After working with thousands of children, one question stuck with us — how do you make problem-solving something kids want to do? That question led us to LabBox, a system of electronic blocks that lets kids discover how circuits work by simply building and experimenting. They start playing, and the learning follows.

LabBox connected us with Hape, one of the world's largest toy companies, bringing world-class manufacturing, safety, and quality to what we do. But it was Hape's philosophy — Love Play, Learn — that inspired Reactor Rescue. It put play first, and that reframed everything: we could turn players into engineers by building a game around the engineering process itself.

After two years of prototyping and playtesting with over 200 families and classrooms, Reactor Rescue was ready — a competitive board game where players build real, working circuits to repair their spacecraft and save the city of Electra. A mission worth caring about, hands-on engineering in every round, and the thrill of game night, all in one box.

Frequently asked questions

Is Reactor Rescue suitable for adults, or just kids?

Both. It's genuinely engaging for adults who enjoy circuits, logic, and hands-on problem-solving — not just a children's toy. Many backers bought it to play with their own kids and found the strategy layer challenging in its own right.

What languages is the game in?

The physical game is available in English and German. Official digital rulebooks in French, Italian and Spanish are available to download free from our website.

What is Reactor Rescue?

A competitive board game where players build real, working electronic circuits to repair their spacecraft and save the city of Electra. It's hands-on engineering wrapped in the thrill of game night — you're actually assembling functioning circuits, not just moving pieces around a board.

How many players can play?

1-4 players

How long does a game take?

A full game runs 60+ minutes, but the rulebook includes shorter variants when you're after a quicker play.

What age is it for?

The recommended age is 10+, but it's a flexible guide — we've watched 8-year-olds jump in and love every minute. Younger players may just need a bit of help getting started.

Do I need any technical or electronics knowledge to play?

None at all. The game teaches circuit-building through play — you learn by doing as you go.

Does it require batteries?

Yes — requires 3 x AAA batteries, not included in the Game. These batteries are inserted into the included USB-C battery bank with built-in low-power indicator lights, designed and tested specifically for the LabBox electronics. The included USB-C cable is short (9 cm) to keep the setup tidy, but the system works with any standard USB-C cable, so you can use a longer one with your own wall adapter if you prefer.

Is it a one-time game or replayable?

Highly replayable. The game ships with 138 circuit challenge cards across three difficulty levels, plus variable challenge cards and randomized setups, so no two games play the same. You can dial the difficulty up or down to match different ages and skill levels, and there are multiple modes, solo, Learning mode or Circuit Specialist mode (once your team has learned how the circuits work) so the same box works for a quiet solo session, a family game night, or a classroom. As players grow more confident, the harder challenges keep it fresh, which is exactly the "cycles of expertise" the GEE! award judges singled out.

How does the timer work — do I need my phone?

A timer isn't built into the box by design, so you can set your own pace. We offer a free companion app with a customisable timer (default 2 minutes, adjustable in 10-second steps, or a different time per player), but it's optional — any phone, sand, or kitchen timer works just as well.
